‘Chala, Khel Kheluya’ Program Organized At Khashaba Jadhav Sports Complex, Initiative By Pune University

Pune, 29th August 2022: The “Chala, Khel Kheluya” (Let’s Play Sports) program was organized at the Khashaba Jadhav Sports Complex, situated on 27 acres of land, by the Savitribai Phule Pune University (SPPU) on the occasion of National Sports Day. Children’s questions – regarding the size of the playground, the sports practised there, and the facilities available – were solved through this activity.

 

 

 

University Vice-Chancellor Dr Karbhari Kale, Pro-Vice-Chancellor Dr Sanjeev Sonwane, Registrar Dr Prafulla Pawar, Management Council Member and Sports Complex Organizing Committee Chairman Rajesh Pande, Dean and Director of Sports and Physical Education Board Dr Deepak Mane, Dean Dr Manohar Chaskar, Arjuna award-winning athlete Shantaram Jadhav, Shakuntala Khatavkar, senate member Sandeep Kadam, Vijay Sonawane, Principal Dr Nitin Ghorpade, and other dignitaries were present on this occasion.

 

 

 

During the speech, Dr Karbhari Kale said, “This project of the sports complex is worth 100 crores, of which the work of 80 crores has been completed. The remaining work will be completed soon.” The future Sachin Tendulkar, Major Dhyan Chand, and Khashaba Jadhav are expected to be created in this sports complex.

 

 

 

Pande said, “We took this initiative as we thought that Major Dhyan Chand should be remembered through such activities and not just his photo.” On this occasion, the students of the municipal school got an opportunity to experience this sports complex.

 

 

 

Shantaram Jadhav said that it is necessary to stay on the playground for 360 days to become a good player, while Shakuntala Khatavkar expressed the belief that many Major Dhyan Chands will arise from the university in the future.

 

 

 

Dr Mane said, “On the occasion of this sports day, we played kabaddi, football, basketball, lawn tennis, wrestling, shooting, gymnasium, and athletic activities. Inter-college competitions for kabaddi for girls and football for boys were also conducted.” At the end of the day, around 3,000 students from schools and colleges visited the sports complex.

 

 

 

Dr Karbhari Kale, the Vice-Chancellor of the University, and Rajesh Pande, a member of the management council, said in their speech that the management council of the university decided that no fee will be charged for the use of the sports complex for the students of Pune Municipal Corporation school in future.
