CBSE Issues Notices to 27 Schools for “Dummy Enrolment” Violations in Delhi and Rajasthan
New Delhi, 5th September 2024: On Thursday, the CBSE issued notices to 27 schools in Delhi and Rajasthan for “dummy enrolment” of students. The board is also considering legal action against schools that fail to comply with regulations.
This move follows a surprise inspection by the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) aimed at addressing the issue of “dummy schools.”
“Most of the schools inspected were found to be in violation of the board’s affiliation regulations by enrolling students beyond their actual attendance records, effectively creating ‘dummy’ enrolments. Additionally, some schools were found to be breaching the board’s infrastructural norms,” stated CBSE Secretary Himanshu Gupta.
Many students preparing for engineering and medical entrance exams opt for dummy schools to concentrate solely on their competitive exam preparations. These students do not attend classes and instead directly sit for the board exams.
Some students choose dummy schools to benefit from state-specific quotas in medical and engineering colleges. For instance, students who complete classes 11 and 12 in Delhi are eligible for admission to medical colleges in the national capital under the Delhi state quota.
Previously, the CBSE had revoked the affiliation of 20 schools for similar infractions involving dummy students and ineligible candidates.
