New Delhi, 22nd August 2024: The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has leveled serious accusations against the local police in the Kolkata Doctor Murder Case, involving the brutal rape and murder of a trainee female doctor at RG Kar Medical Hospital. According to the CBI, the crime scene was tampered with before the central agency could begin its investigation, raising suspicions of an attempted cover-up. The CBI presented these findings to the Supreme Court, accusing the police of trying to conceal the horrific crime.

Representing the CBI, Solicitor General Tushar Mehta informed the Supreme Court, led by Chief Justice DY Chandrachud, that senior doctors and the victim’s colleagues had requested videography of the crime scene, indicating their concerns about a possible cover-up. Mehta disclosed that the CBI started its investigation five days after the incident, only after the local police had handed over the collected evidence. He stressed that the crime scene had already been tampered with by the time the CBI took over the case. Additionally, Mehta noted that the First Information Report (FIR) was registered at 11:45 PM, following the victim’s cremation.

However, Kapil Sibal, a senior advocate for the West Bengal government, refuted Mehta’s claims. Sibal argued that the crime scene had been fully videographed and that no alterations or tampering had occurred. The conflicting narratives between the CBI and the state government have intensified the complexities and tensions surrounding this high-profile case.

The allegations and counterarguments presented before the Supreme Court have highlighted potential lapses in the investigation, raising questions about the integrity of the initial probe conducted by the local police. As the case unfolds, the focus remains on ensuring justice for the victim and accountability for any mishandling of evidence.
