Cars Rented Through Zoomcar In Pune And Sold Illegally Near Pakistan Border In Rajasthan, Police Recover 3 Cars

Chandannagar, 8th August 2023: Pune City Police have exposed a scheme involving the rental and subsequent sale of cars near the Pakistan border. The Chandannagar police apprehended a suspect in connection with this case, and they have confiscated three cars valued at 60 lakhs.

The detained individual, Sufiyan Chauhan (age 19, a resident of Fateganj, Gujarat), was arrested in Indore. Two accomplices of the suspect are currently evading capture, prompting an ongoing search for their whereabouts.

Police Inspector Rajendra Landge explained that the cars were rented through a mobile application of Zoomcar company. Chauhan would rent cars using various individuals’ identification cards and then proceed to sell them. The accused managed to flee after renting a MG Hector car worth Rs 20 lakh from Prachi Pathare of Kharadi. A case was registered at the Chandannagar police station in relation to this incident on July 7. The accused also repeated this method by renting high-value cars from Wagholi and Vishrantwadi, selling them at low prices in Rajasthan.

As the police were investigating the matter, they found that the suspect was planning to travel to Indore.

A team comprising Police Sub-Inspector Arvind Kumre, along with policemen Shrikant Shende, Mahesh Nanekar, Vikas Kadam, Shekhar Shinde, Sachin Kute, Sachin Randive, Suhas Nigde, and Avinash Sankpal, proceeded to Indore and successfully apprehended the suspect.
