Mumbai, 1st August 2024: C.P. Radhakrishnan was officially sworn in as the 21st Governor of Maharashtra on Wednesday, succeeding Ramesh Bais, who has completed his tenure. The oath of office was administered by Bombay High Court Chief Justice Devendra Kumar Upadhyay.

The ceremony, held at the Raj Bhavan, was attended by Chief Minister Eknath Shinde, Deputy Chief Ministers Devendra Fadnavis and Ajit Pawar, State Assembly Speaker Rahul Narwekar, former Chief Minister Narayan Rane, Chief Protocol Officer Manisha Mhaiskar, State DGP Rashmi Shukla, BMC Commissioner Bhushan Gagrani, Mumbai Police Commissioner Vivek Phansalkar, and Advocate General Birendra Saraf.

In his address, Governor Radhakrishnan, 68, acknowledged the challenge of handling the nomination of experts to the Maharashtra Legislative Council. He stated, “I will review the entire issue regarding the council nominations and take the necessary steps.”

The nomination of experts to the council is a significant issue awaiting resolution. During Uddhav Thackeray’s tenure, the state cabinet had proposed appointing 12 experts to the council, but former Governor Bhagat Singh Koshyari did not act on this proposal. The matter remains unresolved and is currently under review by the Bombay High Court, which has noted that while it cannot issue directives, it expects the governor to address the matter promptly.

Expressing his enthusiasm about his new role, Radhakrishnan remarked, “I am honored to serve as Governor in the land of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj. I am committed to working with the state government to improve the welfare of the poor, downtrodden, and members of SC, ST, and OBC communities. Maharashtra is a progressive state, and I believe that development is key to eradicating poverty.”

Before his appointment as Governor of Maharashtra, Radhakrishnan served as the Governor of Jharkhand and held additional responsibilities for Telangana.
