Businessman from Pune Killed in Karwar; Wife Injured During Assault

Pune/Karwar, 23rd September 2024: A businessman from Pune was brutally hacked to death by four to five assailants at Hankon in Karwar taluka in the early hours of Sunday (22nd September). His wife was also injured during the attack. The deceased has been identified as Vinayak Kashinath Naik (52), a native of Hankon.

Naik owned a business dealing in electrical and electronic goods in Pune. He had traveled to his native village in Hankon for the Sateri Devi festival, which was held from 10th to 16th September. He stayed back after the festival to perform the Shraddh rituals for his mother.

On Sunday morning, while Naik and his wife were preparing to return to Pune, four to five unidentified individuals arrived in a car and attacked them with knives, iron rods, and swords at around 5:30 am. Naik died on the spot, while his wife, Vrishali, sustained injuries while trying to intervene.

The incident was reported at the Sadashivgad police station. Karwar Superintendent of Police K Narayan visited the crime scene and has since formed an inquiry team under the guidance of Deputy Superintendent Girish. An investigation is currently underway.
