Businessman Arrested for Firing Gun in Pune Restaurant to Impress Friends

Pune, 5th August 2024: A 41-year-old businessman was arrested by Hinjawadi police station, Pimpri Chinchwad police, on Sunday after he allegedly fired a round from his licensed pistol inside a restaurant in Mhalunge on Saturday evening to impress a new group of acquaintances.

The incident came to light when the restaurant manager filed a complaint the following day. According to police, the businessman, who also owns an eatery and resides in Susgaon, has been charged under sections 110 (attempt to commit culpable homicide) and 125 (act endangering life or personal safety of others) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), as well as relevant sections of the Indian Arms Act. His licensed firearm has been confiscated.

“Late on Saturday night, the businessman dined alone and chose a family room on the first floor. He soon struck up a conversation with a group of men at a neighboring table and joined them,” said Police Sub-inspector Tukaram Shelke.

To impress his newfound friends, the businessman reportedly pulled out his licensed gun and fired a shot into the wall. “The restaurant manager, alarmed by the gunshot, first notified the owner before lodging a formal complaint on Sunday,” Shelke said.
