Pune, 30 March, 2024: A part of the bridge being built across the Ganges River collapsed, raising grave concerns about the quality of the construction. Two of the bridge’s beams collapsed and a third was damaged during the incident, which happened in the Unchagaon development area’s Madiya Mali village. Fortunately, the unforeseen incident on Friday did not result in any casualties.

Two of the bridge’s beams that were being built over the Ganges River fell at the village of Madiya Mali in the Unchagaon development region and the third beam sustained damage. The incident resulted in no casualties. However, Samajwadi Party leader Akhilesh Yadav questioned the building after the under-construction bridge collapsed.

There have been claims that poor materials were used when building bridges. To connect Bulandshahr and Amroha, a 1062.65-meter-long bridge over the Ganges River between Madiya Mali and Birampur was to be built starting in 2021. The bridge construction is being carried out for 8318.90 million rupees. Since the beginning, there have been continuous allegations that poor materials were used in the construction of the bridge. The people had complained often, but officials did not show seriousness.

Because of this incident, Samajwadi Party leader Akhilesh Yadav has taken aim at the government. Posting a video on social media, he stated that the public is wondering how much the contractor, who received “electoral funds” in return, has given since the bridge that was being built in Bulandshahr over the Ganges River collapsed while it was being built. He accused the BJP of jeopardizing people’s lives by compromising on work quality.
