Pune, 24th October 2024: The Bombay High Court has refused to grant anticipatory bail to the father of a friend of a minor driver involved in a fatal Porsche car accident in Pune. The accident, which occurred in May, claimed the lives of two youths.

A single bench of Justice Manish Pitale, while rejecting the petitioner’s anticipatory bail plea, noted that there was evidence suggesting the petitioner had tampered with blood samples to protect the minor driver. The court observed that granting bail could result in the destruction of evidence.

The petitioner’s minor son was reportedly in the back seat of the Porsche at the time of the accident. Police have alleged that both the minor driver and the petitioner’s son were under the influence of alcohol during the incident.

The crash took place on May 19 in Pune’s Kalyaninagar area when two motorcycle-borne IT engineers were struck by a car driven by a minor, allegedly under the influence of alcohol. Following the incident, the minor’s parents reportedly bribed a doctor to submit the mother’s blood sample in place of the minor’s. The petitioner is also accused of tampering with his son’s blood samples in connivance with doctors at Sassoon Hospital, according to police claims.

Police informed the court that other accused in the case have been arrested, but the petitioner remains absconding. They strongly opposed granting him anticipatory bail, arguing that he could be charged with destroying evidence or providing false information to aid a criminal.

The petitioner’s counsel contended that the charges against him were bailable and sought anticipatory bail. However, the court sided with the police and rejected the petitioner’s plea.
