Pune, 27th July 2024: Heavy rains have been lashing Pune city and surrounding areas for the past few days. During the downpour on Wednesday, 26-year-old Akshay Salunkhe from Katraj was swept away in Ambil Odha on the evening of 25th July. After a two-day search by the Pune Municipal Corporation’s (PMC) Fire Brigade, his body was found this morning.

According to Fire Brigade officials, Akshay Salunkhe was carried away by the strong water flow of Ambil Odha. Upon receiving the information, a search operation was initiated by dispatching a vehicle from Gangadham Fire Station. However, the increasing discharge and flow of water from the dam area posed significant challenges. Despite extensive efforts, Akshay was not found on the first day.

Recognizing the seriousness of the incident, fire engines from Gangadham and Katraj were dispatched to Katraj, along with fire engines near Shankar Maharaj Math and the Swami Vivekananda statue. Today, a fire vehicle from Kasba Peth began search operations on a war footing using ropes, hoses, life jackets, and tubes at the river near the PMC. At 10 AM, a body was found in the water under Dengle Bridge near the PMC building, identified as Akshay Salunkhe.
