New Delhi, 12th August 2024: The Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) will introduce a new rule on September 1, 2024, to combat spam calls and messages. The new regulations, announced by the Telecom Department via their official X handle, aim to eliminate fake and spam communications. Organizations found making spam calls will face disconnection of all their telecom resources and blacklisting by all operators for up to 2 years. Additionally, messages with unlisted URLs or APKs will be blocked from delivery.

Under the new TRAI regulations, any entity found engaging in spam calls will have its telecom resources terminated and will be blacklisted for up to 2 years. This rule targets both organizations and individuals using mobile numbers for telemarketing or promotional purposes. The move follows the previous introduction of the 160 number series to combat financial fraud but addresses the issue of spam calls from personal numbers.

In addition to the anti-spam measures, the new rules will also prohibit the delivery of messages containing URLs or APKs not included in a whitelist, effective September 1. This regulation aims to prevent the spread of potentially harmful or fraudulent links.

The TRAI’s updated rules reflect the government’s commitment to reducing spam and protecting consumers from unwanted communications.
