Pune, 16th January 2023: Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) city president Prashant Jagtap, while holding a press conference on the ongoing work on the occasion of the G20 conference, raised some questions and objections to the entire beautification project of the city.

“On the occasion of the G20 conference, representatives and ministerial groups from many countries are coming to the country. An attempt is made to change the appearance of the city of Pune in 15 days to welcome these foreign guests Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC),” he said.

He further informed that today, on the occasion of the G20 conference, the administration is struggling to improve the condition of the city. The only reason is the neglect of the infrastructure by the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in the last five years.

“The roads, footpaths, and flyovers of the city were painted in a hurry. In many places, for the first time in the last five years, construction waste has been lifted. In many places, the garbage has been covered with a curtain as it could not be picked up. In general, dust is being thrown in the eyes of the guests to welcome the guests,” Jagtap added further.

He explained that although the annual budget of the Pune Municipal Corporation is Rs ten thousand crores, however, the state government has sent Rs 50 crore to the city of Pune when it needs a few thousand crores to fill the backlog of development works in the Pune Municipal Corporation area in the last five years.

Jagtap said, “The road in front of the Pune airport has also been covered with cloth. Some places on Senapati Bapat Road where these guests are accommodated have also been covered with shed net cloth. In the last five years, the Pune Municipal Commissioner has fudged all this to cover up the failure of the Bharatiya Janata Party’s people’s representatives who filled their pockets by squandering the tax money of Pune citizens only through tenders on the contractors of their choice.”

“From tomorrow, the Nationalist Congress Party is going to do a live broadcast at one place every day to bring down the curtain on these inferior works. Through this live, the NCP is going to show the Pune residents all the places where their tax money has been squandered, the facilities from which the people of Pune have been deprived in five years,” he added further.

MP Vandana Chavan said, “G20 is an international conference. It is a government event. It is a matter of honor for India to get its presidency. But the BJP is politicizing this conference through the central government. The administration is also listening to them. The meetings of the conference are held in Pune. And for that, the MPs and MLAs of Pune have not even been given a simple invitation. The central government should have listened to what the people’s representatives have to say about their city, but it seems that they are under pressure on the administration.”

Chavan further said, “We asked the municipal commissioner about his involvement as an MP and the directionless beautification going on in the city, but we received a surprising response that ‘everything is good’. If this is a government program, how did the BJP set up a coordination committee for it?”

He further questioned, “If a politician is not wanted, then why should the head of this so-called coordination committee participate directly in the conference? How is he given a place there?”
