Ayodhya, 4th June 2024: In the ongoing vote counting for the 2024 Lok Sabha elections, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has faced a significant setback, particularly in Uttar Pradesh. Early trends indicate that the BJP is falling short of a majority on its own, marking a stark contrast to its performance in the 2019 elections.

The Election Commission reports that the Samajwadi Party (SP) is currently leading in 37 seats, while its ally, the Congress, is ahead in six seats. The BJP is leading in 37 seats across the state. One of the most notable defeats for the BJP occurred in Ayodhya part of the Faizabad Lok Sabha seat.

SP’s Awadhesh Prasad defeated BJP candidate Lallu Singh by a margin of 54,567 votes. This defeat is particularly significant for the BJP, as the construction of the Ram temple in Ayodhya was a central theme of the party’s election campaign.

The Faizabad seat, often considered a BJP stronghold, has historically been a focal point of the party’s political strategy. The loss here reflects broader challenges the BJP is facing in Uttar Pradesh, which has been pivotal to its past electoral successes.

This election cycle has underscored the shifting political landscape in the region, with the Samajwadi Party and Congress making substantial gains at the expense of the BJP.
