Bird Flu In India: Bird Flu Spread In Seven States Of The Country; Take Precautions Regarding Egg,Chicken

Delhi, January 10, 2021: Outbreak of bird flu has increased in many states of the country. The central government states that with the outbreak of bird flu or ‘avian influenza’ confirmed in Uttar Pradesh, the total number of affected states has increased to 7. So far, 1200 birds have died in the country. 

The Center asserted that bird flu has not been confirmed in Delhi, Chandigarh and Maharashtra. Samples collected from these locations have been sent for further examination. Apart from Uttar Pradesh, the other six states where bird flu has been confirmed include Kerala, Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, Himachal Pradesh, Haryana, and Gujarat. 

The Ministry of Fisheries, Animal Husbandry and Dairy said in a statement that so far the disease has been confirmed in seven states. The department has issued a consultation to the affected states to prevent further spread of the disease.

Raw meat or eggs must be avoided: After buying chicken from shops, wearing gloves on hands and masks to cover your nose and mouth is essential to avoid being infected by bird flu. Raw meat or eggs can also infect a human being. You can also be exposed to the virus through a contaminated location. So avoid touching anything in poultry farms or shops. Sanitize the hands immediately after touching anything.

Cook well chicken before eating: Cook the chicken at a temperature of around 100 degrees Celsius. Do not make the mistake of eating raw meat or eggs. According to health experts, the virus is sensitive to heat and is destroyed when cooked properly. Raw meat or eggs should be kept separate from other food items.

Stay away from those who work at a poultry farm: Stay away from people working in poultry farms and avoid visiting the affected areas. Do not go close to healthcare workers. Keep a certain distance from an infected person in the house. Avoid going to the open-air market and take special care of hygiene. Use hand-wash regularly.

Avoid eating undercooked chicken or eggs: Often people are seen eating half boil or half fried egg. Immediately change this habit to avoid bird flu. Eating undercooked chicken or eggs can get you infected by bird flu.

 Precautions while buying chicken: Avoid buying chicken meat at chicken shop or chicken farm which looks weak and sick. The birds from such farms can be infected with the H5N1 virus. Take full precaution when buying chicken. Buy clean chicken only.

Symptoms of bird flu: The symptoms of bird flu are similar to those of common flu. If you are prone to H5N1 infection, you may have cough, diarrhea, respiratory problems, fever, headache, muscle aches, restlessness, runny nose, or sore throat.
