The two day Azaan Training programme initiated by Pune’s leading seminary Madrasa Baitul Uloom has evoked a good response amongst the muslim community in Maharashra. The programme was aimed at correcting the mistakes committed by the Azaan giver known as muezzin and hence was aimed at achieving perfection in the way the call to prayer is given to the faithful.

Mufti Shakir who has taken the lead in this programme said that the call of Azaan  rises from the alleys and travels over the rooftops of the city  five times a day.  ” We have launched a scheme to ensure all muezzins that perform the call to prayer in the city’s mosques are given basic training in holding to the right tune, pronunciation and pitch so that all the principles of Islamic Shariat are followed to achieve success in bringing people to the fold of Namaz in a large numbers. All the students of the Madrasa were given Azaan Training at Azam Campus recently ,” he said.

Maulana Shakir further added that  Azaan givers have long struggled with a reputation for poor renditions of the Azan or call to prayer. The Azan is in Arabic, the language of the Koran, a tongue far removed from Indian Languages and hence it is very important to deliver it in perfection and consonance of the Arabic language as espoused by the teachings of Prophet Mohammad ( May peace be upon him ).

The madrasa students were trained under the expert guidance of Hafeez Sayyed  Abrarul  Haque Sahab Haki from Ahmednagar. The students expressed great satisfaction that the madrasa management tutored them on such an important aspect of Islam. Maulana Mufti Shakir is planning to take this concept to all the parts of India soon.
