Pune, 15th June 2023: The decision to relocate news broadcasting from Akashvani Pune centre to Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar (Aurangabad) has been put on hold by Information and Broadcasting Minister Anurag Thakur. The move to shut down the regional news unit has faced criticism, leading to a reversal of the decision.

Initially, the plan was to cease news broadcasts from the Akashvani Pune centre starting from June 19. However, following dissatisfaction with the decision, the government had to backtrack and suspend the implementation. Former Information and Broadcasting Minister Prakash Javadekar, who is also a Rajya Sabha MP, reached out to Thakur to discuss the matter. Javadekar held discussions with Apoorva Chandra and CEO Dwivedi of Prasar Bharati on the issue.

During the discussions, Javadekar stressed the need to cancel the decision to shift the news broadcast centre from Pune Akashvani to Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar. Subsequently, the decision was suspended. Javadekar, who is currently on a tour of Telangana, held a phone conversation with Anurag Thakur to address this issue.
