Pune, 28th August 2024: Spiritual leader Asumal Sirumalani Harpalani, known to his followers as Asaram Bapu, who is serving a life sentence for rape, has arrived in Pune. He is set to undergo diagnosis and treatment for a cardiac ailment at an Ayurvedic hospital, where he will stay in a private cottage. Asaram Bapu has been admitted under tight security. The Rajasthan High Court has granted him a 7-day parole for Ayurvedic treatment on medical grounds.

Asaram Bapu has been suffering from heart disease for the past few days and will now undergo treatment while remaining in police custody. A bench of Justice P.S. Bhati and Justice Munnari Laxman made this decision. Despite concerns raised by the Pune Police about potential law and order issues if Asaram Bapu is treated at a local hospital, the court has allowed him to seek treatment in Pune.

According to reports, Asaram Bapu will receive treatment at Madhavbaug Clinic. At 83 years old, he has been in jail in Rajasthan since September 2013. His flight arrived in Mumbai at 2:20 PM yesterday, and he has since reached Pune. Conditions attached to his parole include being accompanied by four policemen, with permission for two attendants as well. He will stay in a private cottage in Pune and is responsible for covering all costs related to his treatment, transportation, and police security. Asaram’s earlier request to have his sentence stayed on health grounds was rejected by both the High Court and the Supreme Court.
