Pune, 6th August 2024: Amazon has kicked off its Amazon Great Freedom Festival sale in celebration of Independence Day, starting on 6th August. The sale offers substantial discounts on electronic gadgets, fashion, and home appliances. However, Amazon has issued a warning to its customers to be cautious of scammers during this period. With the rise in online scamming activities, the company is urging buyers to stay vigilant and avoid falling victim to common scams.

Amazon, a leading e-commerce platform, frequently organizes sales for its customers. Continuing this tradition, the Amazon Great Freedom Festival sale commenced on the 6th of August, offering enticing discounts. Unfortunately, the sale’s popularity has attracted scammers who seek to exploit unsuspecting customers through One-Time Password (OTP) scams.

Scammers are increasingly active during the sale, targeting shoppers with deceptive tactics. Amazon reported that many customers received phone calls from individuals posing as Amazon customer service representatives or delivery agents. These scammers attempt to extract personal information and login credentials by creating a sense of urgency. They often mention unexpected orders or deliveries and request a sign-in OTP to cancel the order. Sharing this OTP gives scammers access to the customer’s account.

Amazon has clarified that it never asks customers to share their account’s sign-in OTP or passcode. In a note to its customers, Amazon outlined how to identify and avoid scams. Key indicators include pressure to respond immediately and unexpected order or delivery notifications. Customers should be wary of any such requests and refrain from sharing their OTP.

Amazon advised that if customers receive any suspicious message, call, text, or email not sent by Amazon, they should report it at amazon.in/reportascam. Last year, Amazon India collaborated with the Uttar Pradesh Police to combat fraud and protect people. Additionally, customers can file complaints on the National Cyber Crime Reporting Portal at https://cybercrime.gov.in/ or call 1930. Staying informed and cautious is crucial to enjoying a safe shopping experience during the sale.
