Pune, 3rd August 2024: In response to the heavy rains and subsequent traffic disruptions in Pune, Union Minister Mohol has announced a comprehensive plan to address the city’s pothole problem. Each of the 15 ward offices within the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) will form 30 teams of two members each dedicated to pothole filling and traffic management. Mohol emphasized the need for collaboration between the municipality and the police to ensure smooth operations.

During a joint meeting with Municipal Commissioner Rajendra Bhosale and Police Commissioner Amitesh Kumar, Mohol stressed that there should be no potholes left in the city in the coming days. The municipal administration has committed to filling all potholes within the next 4-5 days.

“The recent heavy rains have severely affected Pune’s traffic system, creating numerous potholes across the city,” Mohol stated. “Pune has a total of 1,400 km of roads, and the municipality must address this issue promptly. Ward officers should be actively involved in traffic planning and road maintenance. We will reconvene next week to review progress on these issues,” he added.

The meeting was attended by MLAs Madhuri Misal, Bhimrao Tapkir, Siddharth Shirole, Sunil Kamble, BJP City President Dheeraj Ghate, Hemant Rasane, and several corporators. Mohol also suggested utilizing the manpower of Home Guards to help manage traffic and ensure smooth flow.

Contractors responsible for road maintenance will be held accountable, and any non-compliance will result in strict action. Mohol emphasized the importance of coordination between the municipality and water resources departments to tackle these challenges effectively.

Flyover Near Rajaram Bridge to Open Soon

The new flyover on Sinhagad Road near Rajaram Bridge is nearing completion, with only asphalt covering remaining. However, due to ongoing rains, the final layer of asphalt has been delayed. Mohol urged that politics should not interfere with the bridge’s completion, as the administration’s approval is still pending. Once the weather permits, the flyover will be ready for traffic, alleviating congestion in the area.
