Viman Nagar, 14th April 2023: A tragic accident at Pune International Airport on Thursday morning resulted in the death of an employee of Air Asia. The victim, identified as 34-year-old Vivin Anthony Dominic, was a resident of Lohegaon and worked as a security agent for the airline.

The incident occurred around 6:20 am after passengers of an Air Asia flight had boarded the plane. Dominic was on a step ladder used for boarding and deboarding aircraft when he lost his balance and fell. He was immediately taken to Sahyadri Hospital, but was declared brought dead.

The flight, numbered 15-767, departed for Delhi at 6:35 am. A source close to the investigation reported that Dominic was inside the aircraft and fell when he stepped out after failing to locate the stairs. The incident was reported to the Airport police station and a case of accidental death has been lodged.

Air Asia spokesperson expressed their condolences, stating that they were saddened by the loss of an employee who was performing their duty. The company has pledged to provide Dominic’s family with all the support they require in this difficult time. The spokesperson also assured the public that the company would conduct a thorough investigation of the incident. They said that the company is working with the authorities to determine the cause of the accident and will take steps to bridge any gaps in their safety procedures.

The Pune airport has five aerobridges that are used for boarding and deboarding passengers. These aerobridges are often fully occupied during the morning hours, as the airport handles 18 departures and arrivals from 4:50 am to 8 am. Consequently, airlines are sometimes forced to use ladders for boarding and deboarding.

The airport director, Santosh Dhoke, stated that the accidental death was under investigation. However, he was unable to confirm from which door Dominic fell, stating that he would have more information once the investigation is complete. The Air Asia spokesperson also said that they did not have a clear idea of the circumstances of the incident or whether ground handling was done by the airline or outsourced.
