After Pune Porsche Accident Case, Excise Department Once Again Makes Drinking License Mandatory

Pune, 23rd May 2024: In response to a tragic Porsche accident on May 19th in Kalyani Nagar, which resulted in the deaths of two IT engineers, including a woman, the Pune Excise Department has launched a major crackdown on restaurants and clubs in the Pune region.

As part of this enforcement drive, the department has taken action against 32 establishments across Pune, PCMC (Pimpri-Chinchwad Municipal Corporation), and rural areas of Pune, sealing their premises. The crackdown is ongoing.

Pune Excise Deputy Superintendent Sujit Patil informed Punekar News that it is mandatory for individuals consuming alcohol in clubs, restaurants, and bars to have a drinking license. These licenses can be obtained directly from the excise department or online or at the pub. Patil also noted that only individuals over the age of 25 are permitted to consume hard liquor.

Restaurant owners have responded by posting boards outside their establishments to inform patrons of the rules. Additionally, drinkers will be given separate bands to help identify them.
