Aditya Birla Memorial Hospital launched Pune’s most Advanced Centre for Cancer Care

Pune, November 26, 2016: Aditya Birla Memorial Hospital (ABMH) today launched Pune’s most advanced comprehensive cancer  care center. The ABMH Cancer Care wing was inaugurated by the Hon. Chief Minister of Maharastra,  Mr. Devendra Fadnavis, Mrs. Rajashree Birla,Chairperson, Aditya Birla Memorial Hospital, Mr. Kumar Managalam Birla, Chairman, Aditya Birla Group and Mr. Ashwin Kothari, Trustee, Aditya Birla Memorial Hospital.

Speaking on the occasion, Mr. Devendra Fadnavis, Honourable Chief Minister of Maharashtra, said, “I congratulate Ms. Rajashree Birla for bringing this state-of-the-art facility which is helpful not only for early detection but cancer care as well. Aditya Birla Memorial Hospital has been a long standing partner to the city, bringing in much needed high quality healthcare services. They have created a benchmark in excellence of hospital care. In India, Maharashtra is the second highest cancer affected state. The motive behind setting up this facility is not for profit but philanthropy. The hospital’s commitment towards society and country is commendable.”

With the state-of-the-art equipment intended for cancer care, the hospital has adopted modern technologies and advanced international protocols for the treatment of cancer. The centre includes Pune’s first PET – CT Scan with BiographTMmCT 20 to give high quality imaging to enhance the plan of treatment for the cancer patients. It has Asia’s first radiation advanced linear accellerators Electa Versa HD therapy machine to deliver radiation up to sub-millimeter targets, well set-up department of nuclear medicine, department of histopathology-, a fully equipped surgical oncology centre with the latest Operation Theatres and specialized 22 beds day care chemotherapy special unit which includes 2 paediatric beds and 2 private room for patients undergoing chemotherapy. It additionally has 2 beds for bone marrow transplant facility (BMT) and 2 beds for radiation therapy.

A recent study on cancer in India mentions that India is likely to have over 17.3 lakhs new cases of cancer and over 8.8 lakhs deaths due to this disease by 2020.
