Pune, 26th August 2024: The Aadhaar card is a crucial document for Indian citizens, acting as proof of identity and facilitating access to various government schemes and benefits. However, a growing concern is the misuse of Aadhaar cards by scammers, leading to identity theft and financial loss. Citizens can now check for unauthorized use of their Aadhaar and report any suspicious activities online. By taking preventive measures, individuals can protect their personal information and mitigate risks associated with potential scams.

Misuse of the Aadhaar card has become increasingly common as scammers find ways to gain unauthorized access. When scammers exploit the Aadhaar system, users face identity theft and personal data loss, which can result in legal complications and financial damages. To verify any misuse of your Aadhaar, you can follow these steps: visit the myAadhaar portal, enter your Aadhaar number, and captcha code, and log in using an OTP sent to your registered mobile number. Select ‘Authentication History’ and choose a date to review your Aadhaar usage history. If you notice any suspicious activity, report it immediately on the UIDAI (Unique Identification Authority of India) website.

To further protect your Aadhaar information, you can lock your biometric data through the myAadhaar website. Click on ‘Lock/Unlock Aadhaar,’ read the guidelines, and provide your virtual ID, full name, pin code, and captcha. After sending the OTP, enter it to lock your Aadhaar card.

If you suspect misuse of your Aadhaar, you can call 1947 or email [email protected] to file a complaint. Additionally, if you must share a photocopy of your Aadhaar, ensure you write your signature, time, and date on it. Downloading a masked Aadhaar card, which conceals the first eight digits, is also advisable.
