Jalgaon, February 1, 2021: Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman on Monday announced a new railway corridor between Maharashtra’s Bhusawal and Kharagpur in West Bengal in the Union Budget FY21-22.

The ‘Bhusawal-Kharagpur Corridor’ will be a catalyst for development through education, trade, and industry in the Jalgaon district.

Apart from that, the finance minister also announced the decision to convert the meter-gauge railway line from Pachora to Jamner in Jalgaon district into a broad gauge line and extend it till Bodwad. Both these decisions taken in the Budget will play an important role in the development of the Jalgaon district.

The Bhusawal-Kharagpur corridor announcement is very important as Kharagpur is an industrially important city in West Bengal.

“The announcement is very important for the development of Jalgaon district,” said Gani Memon, a member of the advisory committee of the Bhusawal division of the Railways.

“The corridor announcement is significant in terms of education, trade, and industry. However, the amount allocated for it and how it will look has not been made clear. The Economic Survey will be available in a few days and you will get information about the corridor but the announcement of the corridor is the most important thing,” said Memon.

The Railway administration may announce a special express train from Bhusawal to Kharagpur. “Besides, freight trains can also be operated through this corridor which will boost trade and industries. Through it, the Jalgaon district will be directly connected to West Bengal. Therefore, traders from our district will be connected with Kharagpur IIT as well as its industries and businesses,” said Memon further added.

Pachora-Jamner route to turn into broad-gauge

The meter-gauge railway line between Pachora and Jamner in the Jalgaon district will also be converted into a broad-gauge line and will be extended from Jamner to Bodwad. Citizens had been demanding the completion of a broad-gauge railway line for the last several years.
