A City That Cares: How Punekars Are Uniting to Protect Community Animals from the Summer Heat

Pune, 19th April 2025: As the unforgiving summer sun blazes down on Pune each year, temperatures rise to unbearable levels— not just for us, but for the countless community animals who call our streets home. Unlike us, they have no respite from the heat. Meanwhile, as we find comfort in air-conditioned spaces, they are left to cope with it, often without access to water.

But this summer, something remarkable is happening in our city.

FurrCrew, in collaboration with the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC), has spearheaded a city-wide movement to ensure that no community animal suffers the scorching summer. Water bowls have been placed in every nook and corner of Pune, and what started as an initiative is now transforming into a powerful wave of responsibility toward our community animals.

Each day, Punekars from all walks of life, including children, senior citizens, restaurant owners, shopkeepers, gated communities, and even bustling corporate offices are stepping up to take responsibility, ensuring that fresh water is always available for every animal.

The sight of these bowls across the city is a sign that our community transcends humans and embraces all living beings— a simple reminder that anyone can pause, refill, and be part of this collective act of care. Kindness isn’t about grand gestures, it’s about small, consistent efforts that make a real difference.

From the vibrant streets of FC Road to the serene lanes of Koregaon Park, from IT hubs to local tea stalls, these bowls stand as a testament to what we can achieve when a city unites for a cause.
