Pune, 4th September 2021: The vigilance by the Forest Department foiled the bid to grab 18 acres of Forest land near Hadapsar.

Interestingly, the alleged person had got his name inscribed on the 7/12 extract by forging the signature of State Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) president and former minister Chandrakant Patil.

It happened so that Popat Pandurang Shitkal had received 18-acre plot on survey no. 62 in Hadapsar which was the forest land. He was trying to register this plot in his name and so had appealed to the revenue officials for it. However, the officials had quashed his petition. So he went to High Court. HC directed the State Government to take appropriate decisions on it. Meanwhile, his application was rejected by District Collector and the divisional commissioner.

He then went to the revenue minister Patil. There too his application was rejected in 2018.

But he forged Patil’s signature and issued a notification of transferring the plot on his name. The officials at the land records department found it true so they initiated a process and got his name on 7/12 extract.

Later, the case was transferred to the forest department when deputy forest officer Rahul Patil got information regarding it. Since it was forest land, it cannot be transferred to a private person. Thus, the matter came to light.
