Bullet Train Route Between Mumbai And Nagpur To Be Built Along Expressway: Danve

Mumbai, 23 August 2021: Railways have suffered a loss of Rs 36,000 crore during the coronavirus pandemic. Union Minister Raosaheb Danve gave this information on Sunday. He said that goods trains are the real revenue generators.

Danve said that a bullet train project will be implemented along the Mumbai-Nagpur Expressway, which is currently under construction. The Minister of State for Railways was speaking at the foundation stone laying ceremony of an underbridge at Jalna railway station.

“The passenger train segment always runs at a loss. Since the hike in ticket fare affects the passengers, we cannot do that. During the pandemic, the Railways suffered a loss of Rs 36,000 crore”, he informed.

The minister said, “Only goods trains give revenue. During the pandemic, these trains played a vital role in carrying goods and providing relief to the people.”

Speaking about the bullet train, he said that this project will be started along the Mumbai-Nagpur Expressway as it is essential for the people. Danve said that the railways has started the Western Dedicated Freight Corridor project, which will connect Navi Mumbai with Delhi.

He assured doubling of tracks between Nanded and Manmad stations and said that he would examine whether the Jalna-Khamgaon railway line is viable.
