Pune Police Invoke MCOCA Against Gang Involved In Murder Of Garwa Hotel Owner

Loni Kalbhor, 9th August 2021: Pune city police has invoked the stringent Maharashtra Control of Organised Crime Act (MCOCA) against the gang involved in the murder of the Garwa Hotel owner.

This is the 42nd action under MCOCA taken under the guidance of Police Commissioner Amitabh Gupta.

Ramdas Akhade, the owner of Garwa Hotel in Uruli Kanchan, was stabbed by the gang at his hotel around 9 pm on July 18. He succumbed to injuries on July 21. During the investigation, police arrested a total of 10 people in the case.

The MCOCA has been invoked against Balasaheb Jayant Khedekar (56), Nikhil Balasaheb Khedekar (24), Saurabh alias Chimya Vailas Chaudhary (21), Akshay Avinash Dabhade (27), Karan Vijay Khadse (21), Prathamesh Rajendra Kolte (23), Ganesh Madhukar Mane (20), Nikhil Mangesh Chaudhary (20), Nilesh Madhukar Aarte (23) and Kajal Chandrakant Konkene (19). They are currently lodged in Yerwada Central Jail. A minor boy is also detained in the case.

According to police, Khedekar is the owner of Ashoka Hotel and he had got Akhade killed due to stiff competition by Garwa Hotel. A total of 21 cases are registered against the gang members in the past including attempts to murder, assault, assault for extortion, robbery and possession of a weapon.

Senior Police Inspector Rajendra Mokashi, in-charge of Loni Kalbhor police station, had sent a proposal through Deputy Commissioner of Police (Zone 5) Namrata Patil to Additional Commissioner of Police (East Region) Namdev Chavan for sanction against the gang under MCOCA. Accordingly, permission was granted.

Now the case is being investigated by ACP (Hadapsar division) Kalyanrao Vidhate. The investigation team includes Police Inspector Subhash Kale, Sub-Inspector Amit Gore and policemen Ganesh Satpute, Sandeep Dhanwate and Ganesh Bhapkar.
