Pune, 4th August 2021: To reduce traffic congestion on Sinhgad Road, it is proposed to construct a two-kilometre flyover from Rajaram Bridge to Fun Time Theater. The proposal was approved in the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) Standing Committee meeting on Tuesday (3rd August). Metro has been taken into consideration while planning a flyover.

Areas like Wadgaon, Dhayari, Narhe, Khadakwasla villages surrounding the Sinhgad Road are developing rapidly. Lakhs of vehicles pass through this road every day. As there is no alternative route to this road, there are traffic jams every morning and evening.

There was a demand to build a flyover to ease the traffic movement. PMC had decided to build a flyover on this road and had sanctioned Rs 10 crore in the year 2018-2019. A consultant was also appointed for this work. The consultant had suggested four options for building the flyover. Construction of flyover from Rajaram bridge to Fun Time Theater was one of the options among them.

In 2019-2020, a provision of Rs 30 crore was made for the flyover. The Standing Committee on June 7, 2021, approved a financial provision of Rs 135 crore for the bridge. This amount will be available in phases. The total cost of construction is Rs 118.37 crores.

“The length of the flyover towards Sinhgad Road is 2120 metres while towards Swargate will be 1540 metres. Daily more than one lakh vehicles will travel on this flyover after the construction. We have also left ample space for metro construction while planning this flyover”, said Hemant Rasane, chairman of the standing committee.
