Shivajinagar, 2nd July 2021: ‘Artist Katta’ and ‘Kalasangam Shilp’ were inaugurated at Gopal Krishna Gokhale Chowk (Goodluck Chowk) on Fergusson College (FC) Road. It is the concept of Corporator Prof Jyotsana Ekbote.

There are art sculptures as well as statues of artists where people can sit and talk for hours. The place is considered to be historical as in the past it was frequented by many actors while they studied at the Film and Television Institute of India (FTII).

Actor-director Prashant Damle, Pandit Sanjeev Abhyankar, and Guru Manisha Sathe inaugurated the Kalakar Katta and Kalasangam Shilp in the presence of BJP state president Chandrakant Patil and Prof Jyotsana Ekbote.

A confluence of painting, dance, and film has been created in the available space at Goodluck Chowk. Three metal sculptures 10 feet high have been installed. This is to promote the art culture of Pune to the people of Pune who visit this road. In the open space in front of this Goodluck Cafe, an artist katta (platform) has been set up. Various artefacts have been installed here as well. This platform will be used for conversation as well as help budding artists to present their art.

Damle said, “Pune has a great heritage of art. It has shaped many artists. After the lockdown, there will be paintings exhibitions, singing and playing, talk shows, poets’ gatherings at this place. It will be a delight to watch.”

“Dev Anand, Gurudatta, Shriram Lagu, Jabbar Patel, Nasiruddin Shah, and many other artists used to come here often. There were discussions about art. ‘Katta and Kalasangam’ will be important in terms of preserving their memories, as well as providing a platform for budding artists to present their art. It is planned to hold ‘Art Week’ in Pune soon like the ‘Kala Ghoda Arts Festival’ in Mumbai. It will allow different artists to present their art”, said Prof Jyotsna Ekbote, Corporator, Ward 14.

“Apart from building infrastructure, the PMC should also set up attraction centres that add to the beauty of the city. The creation of ‘Kalakar Katta’ and ‘Kalasangam Shilp’ will give a diverse view of art. Moreover, here the budding artists will get a platform to present their art, “stated Chandrakant Patil.

On the occasion, Pune Mayor Murlidhar Mohol, MLA Siddharth Shirole, BJP city president Jagdish Mulik, Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) House Leader Ganesh Bidkar, Standing Committee Chairman Hemant Rasne, Progressive Education Society Working president Dr Gajanan Ekbote, Dr Vinay Thorat, Corporator Neelima Khade, Swati Lokhande, General Secretary Rajesh Pandey, Datta Khade, PMC road department head VG Kulkarni, Executive Officer Dinkar Gojare, Deputy Engineer Ravi Khandare, Vishal Dhoot, Shivajinagar Constituency president Ravindra Salegaonkar, General Secretary Pratul Jagde were also present.
