Supreme Court Directs To Implement ‘One Nation One Ration Card’ Scheme From July 31
New Delhi, 29th June 2021: The Supreme Court has fixed July 31, 2021, as the deadline for implementing the ‘One Nation One Ration Card’ scheme. Under this scheme, migrant labourers will get the facility to take ration in any part of the country. The Supreme Court has also given many other orders for the benefit and welfare of migrant labourers.
The Supreme Court has issued several guidelines to the Central and State Governments regarding the welfare of migrant workers due to Corona. The court directed the state governments to provide dry rations for the migrant workers and to continue with the community kitchens till the pandemic continues. Along with this, the court said after completing the work of the National Data Grid Portal, the registration of workers in the unorganized sector should be completed by July 31.
The Supreme Court on Tuesday, on a petition seeking directions to the Center and states to ensure food security, cash transfers and other welfare measures for the migrant workers who were again badly affected by the restrictions imposed during the second wave of Corona.
A bench of Justices Ashok Bhushan and MR Shah on June 11 reserved their order on the petitions of activists Anjali Bhardwaj, Harsh Mander and Jagdeep Chhokar in this regard. A fresh petition in this regard was filed in the pending suo moto case of 2020.
The top court had taken cognizance of the problems and hardships of migrant workers in May last year and issued several directions. Reserving its order, the bench had asked the Center and Union Territories to implement the One Nation, One Ration Card scheme so that migrant workers can get ration at their places of work in other states.
