Pune, 28th June 2021: Higher and Technical Education Minister Uday Samant has directed all vice-chancellors of universities in Maharashtra to reduce fees for the academic year 2021-22.

Due to the Coronavirus disease (COVID19) pandemic last year, the fees were reduced including charges for libraries, laboratories and playgrounds, as colleges were closed. But no decision was made for the academic year 2021-22 which led to unrest among the students.

This year, the Department of Higher and Technical Education has reduced the fees of government engineering colleges by 25 per cent. Therefore, students were demanding to reduce fees of colleges and universities also.

Today, Samant held an online meeting of the vice-chancellors of 13 non-agricultural universities in the state. He reviewed the pandemic situation, then asked to reduce the fees.
