Loni Kalbhor, 27th June 2021: In the background of the recent fire at a chemical factory in Pirangut, MLA Ashok Pawar has demanded to shift the oil terminals from Kaddsamwakvasti and Loni Kalbhor. He has written a letter to the Maharashtra state government and Pune Metropolitan Regions Development Authority (PMRDA).

Pawar said, “There are oil terminals of three companies near Kadamwakvasti and Loni Kalbhor on the Pune-Solapur highway. Both the villages are densely populated due to the growing urbanization in this area. Each of them has about one lakh population. We all know that in the accident that happened in a chemical company in Pirangut (Mulshi taluka), many people have lost their lives. People fear that a similar incident may happen in these oil depots. If such a thing happens thousands of people’s lives will be at risk.”

He further added, “Recently a company was shifted to the less populated area in Nagpur. Similarly, the oil terminals should be shifted to a place that is not densely populated. A huge area occupied by these terminals will be vacant after the shifting and the government should hand over the land to PMRDA so that it can be utilized to build a government office, government hospital, or a commercial complex.”
