Pune, 26th June 2021: BJP MLA Siddharth Shirole from Shivajinagar Constituency, has slammed Maharashtra State Electricity Distribution Company Limited (MSEDCL) for allegedly harassing commercial establishments and shops across the city, for immediate collection of dues and pending payments.

Shirole said that most commercial establishments had barely re-opened before the lockdown was reinforced; most of the businesses today are struggling to stay afloat. Therefore the MSEDCL should extend empathy towards such commercial establishments. Cutting off their electricity supply will not solve the problem; instead it will only lead to mass unemployment and economic distress for the entire state of Maharashtra, he said.

In a long thread on Twitter, Shirole said, “I have received many complaints of harassment by MSEDCL officials intimidating commercial establishments and shops to recover their dues and pending payments, but many establishments are struggling to stand afloat due to the Pandemic. And MSEDCL should show empathy towards business owners.”

“Enforcing and threatening business owners, will lead to mass unemployment and hurt the business owners which will create economic distress for the entire state of Maharashtra and therefore relief should be provided to help business owners flourish their business and stand out strong in the time of crisis and this will eventually help MSEDLP recover all its pending dues.”

Shirole in his tweet also mentioned that he would personally take care of any such happenings and ensure that MSEDCL is being reasonable and understandable in its demands. He also shared the contact of senior staff (Sachin 9764450568) to help business establishments that are being intimidated by the MSEDCL.

“If you or anyone else’s commercial establishment has been threatened or intimidated by the MSEDCL for payment of dues please contact my staff.  I will personally take it up and ensure that MSEDCL is being reasonable and understanding in its demands”, the MLA said.

In his tweet, Shirole also mentioned that he is constantly trying to pursue relief from the government of Maharashtra in electricity rentals and other dues, and expects a moratorium for payments of pending dues in instalments.
