SC Relief To MP Navneet Kaur Rana, Stays Bombay HC’s Decision To Cancel Her Caste Certificate

New Delhi, 22 June 2021: Navneet Kaur Rana, MP from Amravati in Maharashtra, got relief from the Supreme Court. The SC has stayed the Bombay High Court’s decision to cancel her caste certificate. This decision of HC has put Rana’s Lok Sabha membership in danger. Rana has received some relief from the SC’s decision.

Earlier, on HC’s decision, Rana had said that she would approach the Supreme Court. The High Court had rejected the caste certificate issued to Rana, stating that the certificate was obtained fraudulently by using forged documents. Apart from this, a fine of Rs two lakhs was also imposed on her.

Who is Navneet Rana?

Navneet Kaur Rana’s husband Ravi Rana is an MLA of Maharashtra. The two got married in 2011 during a mass wedding ceremony. Navneet entered politics shortly after marriage, before which she was a model and had worked in South Indian films. She contested from Amravati seat in the 2014 Lok Sabha elections on an NCP ticket but was defeated.

After her defeat in 2014, she contested as an independent in the 2019 Lok Sabha elections and won. Congress and NCP gave their support during the elections.
