Pune: Migrant Workers To Be Airlifted From Other States For Water Supply Project Work
Pune, 2nd June 2021: Currently, only 40% of the workers are working for the 24X7 water supply scheme in the city. To expedite the work, the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) will bring the migrant workers to Pune by airlifting them from other states.
Aniruddha Pawaskar, head of PMC’s water supply department, said, “Tanks are being constructed to increase water storage capacity. Because of the Coronavirus pandemic, only 40 per cent of employees are working at present. To speed up the work, we will airlift the workers from other states. PMC is building six pumping stations and installing 3.5 lakh water meters.”
He further said, “The 24 by 7 scheme is divided into 141 zones. Out of which 50 zones will be completed this year. A consultant will be appointed for the water supply project in the 34 merged villages. A proposal will be submitted to the city development committee to get 5 TMC water supply from Mulshi dam.”
Speaking about the issue, corporator Haridas Charwad said, “Population has increased in Narhe, Ambegaon area. There should be adequate water supply in this area.”

Raja Laigude said, “Three tanks have been constructed in the Dhayari area, but no pipeline has been connected.”
Aba Tupe added, “There are newly merged villages near Hadapsar, but there is a water shortage in those villages. In some areas, people are getting water once every two days.”
“It has been seven years since Yeolawadi village merged into the municipality but the water is supplied on every alternate day. The Pune city gets water for four hours daily, then give us one hour of water supply daily at the fixed time,” demanded by Sangeeta Thosar.
