Pune: Body Of Abid Sheikh Found, Earlier His Wife And Son Were Found Murdered

Pune, 18th June 2021: Four days after a woman and her son were found murdered, the body of her husband has been found. Earlier, police suspected him to have killed them. Now the investigation is going on to find out whether he died due to suicide or was murdered.

The deceased person has been identified as Abid Sheikh (38). His body was found in Khanapur, about 26 km from Pune and on the way to Panshet dam, under Haveli police station, Pune rural police jurisdiction, today morning.

Earlier on Tuesday morning, the body of his wife Aliya (35) was found near Khalad village on Saswad-Jejuri road, while the body of their son Ayan (6) was found near the new Katraj tunnel on Tuesday evening. Their hired car was found near City Pride theatre on Pune-Satara road on Tuesday evening. It was parked there at 1.15 am on Tuesday.

According to police, Abid had hired a car on June 11 and since then he was taking the family for an outing every day. However, they did not return to the flat in Pride World City near Lohegaon, after going out on Monday (June 14). They had their last contact with family around 8.30 pm on the same day. After they became incommunicado, a search for them began on Tuesday.

Senior Police Inspector Jagannath Kalaskar, in charge of Bharati Vidyapeeth police station where the murder case of Ayan is registered, said, “Abid’s body has been found in Khanapur. Haveli police station is investigating the cause of his death.”

When contacted Police Inspector Sadashiv Shelar, in charge of Haveli police station, said, “Abid’s body was found in the backwater of Khadakwasla lake near Jawalkar Farm next in Khanapur. Prima facie he died of suicide but before that, it seems he had injured himself with a sharp weapon. Further investigation is going on.”

Therefore, the mystery behind the death of three of them is yet to be solved by the Pune police.

Police said that the family hailed from Vidisha in Madhya Pradesh and lived in Pune since 2007. They had recently shifted to Pride World City society near Lohegaon. Abid worked as a manager with an insurance company, while Aliya had left her job with a private company to look after their son who was having Global Developmental Delay.

As per police investigation from the GPS log of the hired car, on Monday, the car had travelled to Saswad-Diveghat-Baneshwar-Bopdev Ghat-Dive Ghat. There, it is believed he killed Aliya in the car around 8.30 pm. After that, he travelled to Katraj-Datta Nagar Chowk-Katraj new tunnel. He strangled the boy and dumped his body there. Later, he abandoned the car near City Pride on Pune-Satara road. He was caught on CCTV as he left his car and was walking towards Swargate.

Police found two iron pipes, the child’s clothes and food items in the car. There was a lot of blood on the back seat of the car. Also, at first sight, there was no one in the car except the three. So the needle of suspicion was on Abid. The discovery of his body has added to the mystery. An autopsy report, meanwhile, revealed that Aliya had been beaten to death and that Ayan had been strangled to death.
