No Toll If Vehicles In Queue Over 100 Meters From Toll Plaza: NHAI

Pune, 28th May 2021: The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) has now made it mandatory to draw a yellow line 100 meters from the toll plaza. If there is a vehicle line at a distance of more than 100 meters and then the vehicles behind the 100 metre yellow line will be released without paying the toll.

To achieve smooth and speedy movement of vehicles at toll plazas, NHAI has issued guidelines to ensure that it does not take more than 10 seconds per vehicle even on crammed toll plazas on national highways. Accordingly, it will be made sure that the vehicles do not line up for more than 100 meters at the toll plaza to ensure a smooth flow of traffic. For this purpose, yellow lines will be drawn on each lane at a distance of 100 meters from the toll booth.

Fastags have been made 100 percent mandatory at most toll plazas, reducing the waiting period for motorists. The toll plaza drivers have been notified and will now have to improve their procedures. There are a total of 96 toll plazas in Maharashtra. Of these, 54 toll plazas are under the jurisdiction of NHAI and 42 toll plazas are under the purview of the Maharashtra State Road Development Corporation (MSRDC).

Due to the efforts of NHAI, 100 percent cashless toll has been levied since mid-February 2021. The number of Fastag vehicles is 96 to 99 percent. Given the growing use of Electronic Toll Collection (ETC) in the country, the NHAI has clarified that the emphasis will be on the construction of new toll plazas by redesigning traffic estimates for the next 10 years.
