Pune, 15th May 2021: As the cyclonic storm Tauktae has intensified into a severe cyclonic storm over the east-central Arabian sea. Gujarat and Diu coasts have been given Yellow alert. The storm is likely to reach the Gujarat coast (Veraval) by Tuesday. The storm is further moving south-southeast of Karachi (Pakistan).

The storm is going to intensify into a very severe cyclonic storm and will turn into a depression on Wednesday. Till then the winds will blow upto 170 kmph. Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued an orange alert for Kerala, Karnataka, Goa and Maharashtra on the western coast.

Where Tauktae will hit the hardest? 

Lakshadweep the coast of Kerala, Karnataka, Goa and Maharashtra are likely to be most impacted by the cyclone. Flooding will take place in low-lying areas of Lakshadweep on Sunday. Predictions also suggest that the cyclone may drift towards Gujarat and south Pakistan while is also the possibility of it moving towards south Oman. 

Yellow alert for Pune district 

IMD has ghat areas will receive moderate to heavy rainfall at isolated places in the ghat areas (15.6 to 64.4 mm) while heavy at isolated places (64.5 mm to 115.5 mm) along with thunderstorm and lightning, gusty wind. The winds will blow at 30 to 40 kmph.

Due to intense spell, there will be a partial reduction in visibility and major disruption of traffic. People are warned not to venture out.

Rainfall in all meteorological sub-division 

The entire state will receive heavy rainfall with thundering and lightning and gusty winds. Similarly, Konkan and Goa will receive heavy rainfall with the sea to remain turbulent. The rain is predicted in the state till Wednesday. 

Pune will have a partly cloudy sky till Friday. And there will be incidents of rains at isolated places along with thundery activity and lightning.
