Pune, April 27, 2021: Excavations for various public and private works in the Mundhwa area of the city have cut off high and low voltage power lines at 85 places in the last one year. As a result, about 33,000 consumers in the area are suffering from power outages and Maharashtra State Electricity Distribution Company Limited (MSEDCL) is also sustaining financial losses.

Under the Mundhwa branch under Bund Garden section, 30 power lines supply electricity to about 33,000 customers in Keshavnagar, Mundhwa village, Magarpatta road, Lonakarvasti, Pingalevasti, Koregaon Park road, Gairan Vasti, Sade Satra Nali etc. However, excavations of gas pipelines, cables of private companies, road widening, water and drainage pipelines by various organisations go on through JCB and other machinery.

“Excavations works are being carried out without any prior notice to MSEDCL. It has resulted in 85 high voltage and 19 low voltage power lines getting disconnected in the last one year”, MSEDCL stated in a press release.

“As the power outages have increased, the engineers and employees of MSEDCL have to rush to restore the power supply at any odd time. Sometimes the power supply is interrupted for long as the alternate power supply is not available. Due to power outage, MSEDCL is facing a loss in power sales and also has to bear the cost of repairing the line. At the same time, consumers in the Mundhwa area are also suffering unnecessarily due to power outages. MSEDCL can take care of the power lines if prior information is received about the excavation work”, the power utility agency said.
