Pune: Restaurant Owners Oppose Restrictions Calling It A ‘Black Day’; Demand For Proper Opportunity To Do Business

Pune, 2 April 2021: As the administration has decided to close hotels and restaurants in Pune and Pimpri for seven days, the United Hospitality Association, a restaurant association has expressed outrage at the ban calling it a ‘Black Day’ for hotel and restaurant owners.

Speaking on the issue, Ajinkya Shinde, vice-president of the association, said, “Over 40% of the restaurants in the city have been closed as a result of the lockdown in the last one year and about 50% of the ones that had started are not even getting good business. In such a situation, the decision of the administration to close the hotels and restaurants for another 7 days is harsh. Forget business, the hotel and restaurant operators can’t even pay their rent. In such a situation, we are appalled by the restrictions imposed in today’s meeting by the government. Allowing other trades, vegetable markets and shops to remain open, while closing hotels and restaurants completely is injustice.”

“A year-long lockdown due to COVID has increased the hotel’s and restaurant sector’s woes. Even after the lockdown, the restrictions imposed on us became more stringent. We also continued to work at a loss for the past year but now it is not possible for the sector to survive. We are ready to strictly abide by every rule laid down by the government but we should be given the opportunity to do business”, he added.
