Pune To Become First City To Ply ST Electric Buses

Pune, 1 April 2021: If all goes well, then Pune will become the first city in the State to have electric buses plying in five major cities of the state. Maharashtra State Road Transport Corporation (MSRTC) for the first time will be adding electric buses to its fleet.

“The State transport has issued tenders for the electric buses. The transport body will take 100 buses on lease in the first phase of the project. MSRTC will be responsible for charging these buses. Pune will get 30 buses out of the fleet of 100 buses. One bus can accommodate 43 passengers at one time,” said, Raghunath Kamble, General Manager, MSRTC.

He further said that seven charging stations will be built up at seven ST depots in the state. These depots include Pune, Nashik, Aurangabad, Kolhapur, Solapur, Nagpur and Nanded.

“The charging stations can be built within three months after getting all the required permissions”, stated Kamble.

A charging station will be built at the open ground behind the divisional control office of MSRTC. This station will have the capacity to charge upto 3000 kilowatt…. A budget of Rs2 crore. Twenty charging points will be built in the city. A bus would take two hours to get fully charged.

Twenty charges will be there to charge 150 kilowatt, while another 20 charging points will charge 90 kilo watt batteries. A bus will require two hours to get fully charged and can run upto 300 kms.
