Anand Mahindra Salutes ‘Rancho’ For His Special Innovation For Indian Army Soldiers

Ladakh, February 21, 2021: Sonam Wangchuk has invented a special tent for Indian army soldiers. At 10 pm when the temperature dropped to -14 ° C, the temperature inside the tent was 29 ° C, i.e higher than the temperature outside the tent.

In this part of Ladakh, though mercury falls below zero degrees in winter, the soldiers of the Indian Army stay there day and night to protect the border.

Wangchuk developed a special type of tent so that the soldiers will not have to face any problems. Yes, he is the same Wangchuk whose life inspired the Hindi film ‘Three Idiots’. Aamir Khan’s character in the film, Phunsuk Wangdu, whom his friends fondly call Rancho, is based on Wangchuk of Ladakh.

As the name suggests, it uses solar energy. This will decrease the usage of kerosene and will hence avoid pollution and it will also create a warm corner for the army personnel. Such a tent can comfortably house 10 soldiers. Wangchuk made it while staying in Ladakh. The weight of this tent is only 30 kg, i.e. it is easily portable.

Wangchuk is constantly working on innovation. He is also known for his Ice Stupa. The Educational and Cultural Movements in Ladakh mainly focus on students. This invention of Wangchuk is a revolutionary step, to bring changes in the field of education in Ladakh.
