Pune: PMC Offers 15% Concession For Paying Property Tax On Time

Pune, February 19, 2021: The Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) has decided to give a 15% concession in property tax to those who have paid tax on time. The proposal was unanimously approved by the General Body on Thursday. If the tax for the next financial year is paid by May 31, the property owners will receive a 15% discount on all taxes levied by the PMC.

Citizens who have paid lump-sum tax during the period of the Corona epidemic from 1st April 2020 to 30th September 2020, will receive relief in property tax in the coming financial year (2021-22). For this, the tax has to be paid by May 31. The decision was announced by Mayor Murlidhar Mohol, group leader Ganesh Beedkar, and standing committee chairman Hemant Rasne on Thursday.

Attempts have been made to provide relief to honest taxpayers and Pune residents should take advantage of this scheme. While presenting the budget for the coming financial year, Municipal Commissioner Vikram Kumar had proposed an 11 percent increase in property tax. The Standing Committee in a special meeting had rejected the tax proposal.

Against this background, the proposal was presented before the main meeting as per the rules. The General Body unanimously passed a sub-resolution as well to provide relief to the honest taxpayers by giving them relief in the municipal tax while avoiding the proposed tax hike. This resolution was unanimously accepted.

A total of fourteen taxes are levied by the Municipal Corporation. Of these, ten taxes belong to the Municipal Corporation. Therefore, this tax will be reduced. Some of the cess from the corporation are general tax, cleaning strip, tree tax, road tax, water load, sewerage tax, fire tax, education cess, special cleaning cess. Those who pay taxes from April 1, 2021, to May 31, 2021, will be provided with this relief, said Mayor Murlidhar Mohol.

During the Corona period, honest taxpayers had to pay taxes regularly. Meanwhile, to increase the income, PMC implemented Abhay Yojana for the recovery of property tax arrears. Therefore, in the current financial year, a total of Rs 1,300 crore has been deposited in the treasury of the PMC. Now the civic body is trying to provide relief to honest taxpayers.
