COVID Pandemic Taught Us Lesson Of Cooperation, Solidarity: PM Modi

New Delhi, February 18, 2021: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday addressed a workshop on Covid Management with 10 neighbouring countries including extended neighbours.

Prime Minister Modi said that this epidemic has taught us the important lesson of cooperation and solidarity. He called for further strengthening cooperation between South Asian and Indian Ocean island states, saying that the regional solidarity shown during the Covid-19 epidemic has proved that such cooperation is possible.

In a 10-nation workshop on Covid management, Prime Minister Modi called for introducing some special schemes for mutual help in times of Covid crisis. The Prime Minister suggested a special visa scheme for the deployment of doctors and nurses during emergency health conditions in the Asian region. The Prime Minister said that if we focus on what unites us, our region can not only overcome the corona epidemic but also other challenges.

PM Modi said that the spirit of cooperation between countries is valuable in fighting the Corona epidemic. If the 21st century belongs to Asia, it cannot be possible without the solidarity of the countries of South Asia and the Indian Ocean. The regional solidarity shown during the epidemic has proved that such cooperation is possible. Experts had raised many apprehensions about the epidemic in view of the population density of the region, but due to the openness and perseverance, the entire region has managed to maintain the lowest mortality rate in the entire world.

Prime Minister Modi said that at present, our eyes are focused on providing vaccines against Corona at a rapid pace. In this work, we have to maintain the spirit of cooperation. In the midst of the Corona crisis, our health cooperation has achieved many achievements. If the 21st century is to be made the Asian century, then we have to be united for this. This achievement cannot be possible without integration between the South Asian countries and the island states of the Indian Ocean.

The Prime Minister said that the expectations of the world and the entire region now rests on the rapid availability of vaccines. All of us should maintain this collaborative spirit. Appreciating the cooperation between these countries in the field of health, Modi said that now there is a need to further the goals. Prime Minister Modi also made several important suggestions in connection with the spirit of cooperation.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi suggested a special visa scheme for the movement of doctors and nurses in the event of an emergency. Not only this, but he also suggested creating a regional forum on the effect of vaccines against corona infection. Also suggested promoting Ayushman Bharat and Jan Aushadhi schemes being run in India by other countries as a ‘case study’.

The Prime Minister questioned “Can we consider preparing a special visa scheme for doctors and nurses so that these people can help our people by travelling fast without losing time on the request of a country in emergency health conditions. Can we coordinate a regional air ambulance agreement on accidental medical conditions? Can we create a regional platform where the data collected about the effect of Covid vaccine on common people can be brought together and studied?”
