Pune: Techie Cheated Of Rs 2.38 Lakh For Old Scooter Worth Rs 30,000 On Quikr Website

Vishrantwadi, January 28, 2021: A 35-year-old software engineer was cheated by online fraudsters to the tune of Rs 2.38 lakh over a deal for the purchase of an old scooter that was worth Rs 30,000.

According to police, the incident took place between November 4-11 last year. The accused had posted an advertisement for selling a two-wheeler. When the complainant called him, the accused claimed that he worked with the military and wants to sell the vehicle as he has been posted to Bengaluru.

The accused asked him to transfer money for various fees and took away a total of Rs 2.38 lakh. When the complainant, a resident of Tingre Nagar, realised the fraud, he lodged a complaint with police.

Police have registered the FIR for offences under sections 419 (punishment for cheating by impersonation), 420 (cheating) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC), and relevant sections of the Information Technology Act. Police Inspector (Crime) Manisha Zende is further investigating the case.
