Pune Breaks Highest Rainfall Record Of Last 73 Years

Pune, 8th January 2021: Pune received 24 mm of rainfall on Friday, breaking a record of last 73 years. In January 1948, the city had received 22.3 mm of rainfall.

The newly-formed low-pressure area in the Arabian Sea from Karnataka coastline till Maharashtra coastline has extended till Gujarat coast and intensified in the last 24 hours.

Heavy clouds have gathered over the Western Ghats due to which, Pune and its surrounding areas are receiving heavy rains. The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has also predicted rainfall in Ratnagiri, Nashik and Raigad district.

According to the data released by IMD, Pune received the highest rainfall in January this year since 1948. The second-highest amount of rainfall received by the city was in 1995 when it recorded 14.7 mm of rains.

The weather condition is expected to continue for the next 48 hours. IMD has predicted that Pune will receive moderate to heavy rainfall till January 9.
