FYJC Admissions: Education Department Directs Junior Colleges To Hold First-Come-First-Serve Round
Pune, January 8, 2021: The Maharashtra Government has decided to hold the ‘first-come-first-serve’ (FCFS) round for the first-year junior college (FYJC) admissions for the academic year 2020-21. On realising that many Std XI aspirants couldn’t secure a seat in junior college at the end of the special round, the state’s school education and sports department has approved of organising the FCFS round for students. This year the FYJC 2020-21 admission procedures are held online.
The education department at the beginning of the FYJC admissions for the year 2020-21 had cancelled the FCFS round due to the unprecedented health crisis-induced after the coronavirus disease (COVID-19) outbreak. Instead, it had decided to allow students to seek admissions in a special round, in case any student doesn’t get admission in the regular rounds. However, it has been observed that many students were left without admission to any junior college even after the special round.
Therefore, the state government has directed all the approved higher secondary schools and junior colleges falling under the jurisdiction of Mumbai-Thane district, Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA), and the civic administration of Pune and Pimpri-Chinchwad, Nagpur, Amravati, Aurangabad, and Nashik to organise the FCFS admission round for the Std XI students.
The FYJC 2020-21 admission procedure had started in the month of July 2020, but it got prolonged because of the pandemic; adding to it, the reservation issue had also halted the admission process for some time.
