Pune, January 5, 2020: Carelessness of a 24-year-old girl caused her to lose a case against Pune Mahanagar Parivahan Mahamandal Limited (PMPML) and United India Insurance Company Limited.

It happened so that the girl fell off a moving bus in 2014 and became 51% handicapped. She was travelling from Shivajinagar to Swargate. She tried to de-board the bus when it had lowered the speed but she lost her balance and fell off. Her left leg came under the wheels of the bus.

The bus driver and other passengers rushed her to Sassoon General Hospital and later she was shifted to a private hospital. She was hospitalized for over two months. Later, she had filed a complaint against the bus driver and demanded the compensation.
However, the insurance company advocate Manohar Maheshwari proved that it was the fault of the girl who de-boarded the bus when it was still in motion. Accordingly, the Motor Accident Claim Tribunal directed to pay half of the amount. The girl had demanded Rs 11.97 lakh. But now she will get only Rs 5.98 lakh.  Similarly, she will get interest at the rate of nine percent on the amount from the date of filing of the complaint.
