New Delhi, January 3, 2021: In the year 2020, the Corona Epidemic has left a deep wound from which the world has still not recovered. In the past year, people have struggled with restrictions like lockdown. Children and women have suffered a lot during this period. India was also not left untouched by this.

According to NCW data, about one-fourth of the 23,722 complaints are of domestic violence cases. The highest number of complaints came from Uttar Pradesh. 11,872 cases have been reported in Uttar Pradesh, 2,635 in Delhi, 1,266 in Haryana and 1,188 in Maharashtra. Of these, a total of 5,294 complaints are of domestic violence. Out of the 23,722 complaints, 7,708 complaints have been made under the Right to Life with Dignity.

NCW’s Chairperson Rekha Sharma said that domestic violence cases increased in the year 2020 due to economic insecurity, rising levels of stress, anxiety, financial troubles, and no emotional support from family. She also talked about how houses have turned into offices for couples these days. Homes have also converted into schools and colleges for the children. In such a case, women are simultaneously maintaining home and office singlehandedly.

That is why in the last six years, the highest number of complaints have been filed in 2020. Prior to this the number of complaints registered in 2014was 33,906.
